Coldplay lead web music winners
Story from BBC NEWS : here

Coldplay have cleaned up at the Digital Music Awards, winning three prizes for their use of the internet to promote their music and foster a fan community.

Coldplay.com won the people's choice award for best official site and the prize for best digital music community.

Record label EMI also won the award for best digital marketing campaign for Coldplay's latest album X&Y.

Apple's iTunes won best digital music store while Gorillaz were named the top online band overall.

Gorillaz picked up a second award for being the dance act that had made best use of digital platforms, with James Blunt best pop artist.

Innovation

The rock award went to Stereophonics and Goldie Lookin' Chain picked up the urban prize.

U2's Vertigo was voted favourite download single and The Magic Numbers' Love Me Like You was named soundtrack of 2005.

The prize for best innovation went to Napster To Go, a music download service that lets subscribers transfer songs to their portable players.

The BBC's 6 Music was named best radio station.

Head of programmes Ric Blaxill said: "The whole radio landscape is changing and becoming increasingly competitive.

"So it's significant that 6 Music has been recognised as a distinct and entertaining music station, by both industry judges and radio listeners."

Coldplay's online success has been put down to the Coldplayer - an area of the website where the band post diaries and where new videos, games and photos appear first.
